week 2

For this week, we were asked to go to any location where there are crowds of people and make some observation, take some photos that best describe any social group that interest us.

So,i went to pudu plaza to buy my new dslr this week, then I and my parent passed by shaw parade and we decided to have our dinner at purple cane. It is a tea restaurant with new food concept with the usage of tea.

This is the restaurant. The atmosphere is pretty good and the interior design is more towards the modern classic elegance with the infusion of chinese tea culture. It is not what I would expected, but it surprised me in a good way.

Customers came over to sipped the good old tea and enjoyed the tea delicacy. Each of their dishes is added with different kind of tea when i look through the menu. This make each of the dishes unique in its own way.

Let me just back to original topic before I get further and further away.My lecturer asked us to observe certain social group that interest us.Thinking that I was at the restaurant ,and to save time,I took the photo of the waitress there. This killed two birds with one stone.

This is one of the young waitress that served us.The waiters and waitresses worn uniform that have the resemblance of malay batik; waiter worn an apron that looks like malay sarong at the bottom, as for the girls, they worn cheongsam that have malay batik pattern on it. I guess that it probably because the restaurant want to show the ONE MALAYSIA culture. The young waitress spoke very gentle and the way she poured the tea to the cup is very elegant too.

There was a corner that sell tea and tea testing at the corner of the restaurant.A few waitress were at the table that has beautiful tea set on the wooden table. The waitress handled the tea in a graceful manner, tea poured from tea pot to another tea pot to ensure the tea is brewed in a proper way.She seems very calm and concentrate when she was handling the tea, as if she was in her own world. It seems like she have mastered the traditional technique and ritualized protocol of brewing and serving tea for enjoyment in a refined setting.

Two waitresses were answering questions from curious customers. From the place where i was seated(which was not too far and the surrounding of the restaurant was quiet enough), I can clearly heard their conversation(not eavesdrop, of course), the customers asked about the tea they were drinking. Both of the waitress obviously must have the knowledge in this field, they can answered the question with no doubt and provide the customers with extra information as well, such as the name of the tea,the year it produced, the benefits of the tea and etc.

The waiter and waitress were very thoughtful and caring. They walked over to each table and refill the tea once they saw the customer's cup was empty.

They were busy cleaning the table once the customers left, this just show how efficient they are.

post for 1st week

-Crossdisciplinarity describes any method, project and research activity that examines a subject outside the scope of its own discipline without cooperation or integration from other relevant disciplines. In crossdisciplinarity, topics are studied using foreign methodologies of unrelated disciplines, for example Ethics in clinical research and occupational health.

-Interdisciplinarity involves the combining of two or more academic fields into one single discipline. An interdisciplinary field crosses traditional boundaries between academic disciplines or schools of thought, as new needs and professions have emerged.

-Transdisciplinarity connotes a research strategy that crosses many disciplinary boundaries to create a holistic approach. It applies to research efforts focused on problems that cross the boundaries of two or more disciplines, such as research on effective information systems for biomedical research and can refer to concepts or methods that were originally developed by one discipline, but are now used by several others, such as ethnography, a field research method originally developed in anthropology but now widely used by other disciplines.

-Qualitative research is a method of inquiry employed in many different academic disciplines, traditionally in the social sciences, but also in market research and further contexts.

- Ethnographic research is a qualitative method aimed to learn and understand cultural phenomena which reflect the knowledge and system of meanings guiding the life of a cultural group.
